Designed to prevent burn-in

Pure black background

On an OLED screen, black pixels are switched off, so typically less than 1% of the screen is lit.

Never stays still

The clock drifts slowly and bounces off the edges at a slightly different angle each time, so its path never repeats.

Dim, light lettering

A thin font at half brightness means fewer pixels light up, and they glow less.

Goes fully black

After a set time, 30 minutes to begin with, it fades to a completely black screen.

Optional colour cycling

Slowly cycling the colour spreads the wear across the red, green and blue parts of each pixel.

Clock, date or nothing

Show the time, the time and date, or nothing at all for a pure black screen.

Frequently asked questions

On an OLED screen, each pixel makes its own light and wears a little as it's used. If the same image stays in one place for a very long time, it can leave a faint permanent shadow. This screensaver keeps almost every pixel switched off and keeps the rest moving, so nothing stays in one place.

Yes. For long breaks it's still best to let Windows turn the display off (Settings, then System, then Power). Many OLED monitors only run their own pixel care cycle while they're switched off.

Dimmer pixels wear more slowly, so it starts at 50% brightness. You can turn it up to 100% in the settings if you'd like it brighter.

OLED Safe is free to download and try, with every feature working. Until you buy a licence, a small "OLED Safe trial" caption shows in a corner of the screen, moving every couple of minutes. Click Buy a licence in the settings, then Enter licence key… with the key from your receipt email to remove it.

Yes. Click Deactivate on this PC in the settings, then enter the same key on your other computer.

Yes. Windows SmartScreen shows this warning for new programs it hasn't seen many people download yet. Click More info, check the file is OLED Safe.scr, then click Run anyway. It's a single, self-contained file that doesn't change anything else on your computer.

Windows only lists the screen savers it finds in System32 (plus the one currently selected). If you install it from your Downloads folder instead, it disappears from the list as soon as you choose a different screen saver.

Choose a different screen saver, then delete OLED Safe.scr from C:\Windows\System32. That's all - there's nothing else to uninstall.
